The 21st Century's Most Acclaimed Films The Top 50 Directors
21st Century Home  Rankings: 1-50  51-100  101-150  151-200  201-250  Full Listings: By Title  By Director  By Year  The Top 50 Directors

° On this page we have included a list of the 50 filmmakers whose 21st Century films have - to date - garnered the most critical acclaim. It is based on the same top-tens that we resourced for the 21st Century's Most Acclaimed Films. This listing has been compiled in a similar manner to our 100 most critically acclaimed filmmakers of all-time.
° The minimum qualification for this list is that each director must have at least one film in the 21st Century's Most Acclaimed Films listing.
° In brackets, is the position each director held prior to our January 2008 update.
° What does x films in the Top 250 / x films cited mean? The best way to answer this is by using an example. Let's go with Clint Eastwood. He has four films that have made the current Top 250 list. They are Million Dollar Baby, Mystic River, Letters from Iwo Jima  and Flags of Our Fathers. He has, however, had a total of six films cited on critics' lists since 2000. The four that are currently in the Top 250 plus Space Cowboys and Blood Work. Therefore, the note alongside Eastwood's name reads 4 films in the Top 250 / 6 films cited.
